Jeff Berg’s journey into acting began with a strong foundation in theater, where he honed his craft and embraced every opportunity to gain experience. Coming out of theater school with the mindset of saying "yes" to everything, Jeff threw himself into indie films, NYU student projects, and black box theater in New York. These early experiences were driven by his passion for the art, rather than a focus on advancing his career or making money. However, as Jeff navigated the often unpredictable world of acting, he realized that his initial desire to be liked by everyone held him back. Over time, this self-awareness led him to find his own voice and power as an actor, allowing him to transition from accepting any role to thoughtfully choosing projects that aligned with his personal and professional growth.
"The actors are like the shiny exterior of a car that the audience sees, but the crew is the engine, the gas, the pistons firing—all the magic that makes the car move"
Jeff Berg’s transition into performance capture was marked by his ability to adapt quickly to the technical demands of the industry, while remaining grounded in his authentic self as an actor. His early work in theater and indie films laid the foundation for his success, but it was his personal growth—most notably becoming a father—that brought new depth to his performances. Jeff realized that balancing his personal life and career allowed him to approach his work with greater authenticity, letting go of the desperation that often hinders creativity. Jeff brings this balance to the forefront, overseeing the motion capture process and ensuring that performances are emotionally compelling and technically precise. Jeff also emphasizes the importance of collaboration, valuing not only the work of his fellow actors but also the contributions of the crew behind the scenes. He believes that a strong connection between cast and crew is essential for creating the best possible production, ensuring that everyone feels respected and supported.
"Comparison is the death of all creativity... Comparing my career to friends that have worked more or in capacities I want to work in doesn't help me"
Beyond his acting career, Jeff Berg’s passion for fostering a supportive and collaborative environment led him to co-create The Actors Volume, a dedicated space for performance capture artists to connect, learn, and grow. Jeff is deeply committed to creating a resource that allows actors to share their knowledge and experiences, helping the next generation thrive in an industry that is both technically demanding and creatively rewarding. For Jeff, the idea of building a community where both cast and crew are valued equally is at the heart of his mission, as he believes that the best projects are born from strong teamwork and mutual respect. His dedication to this project reflects his desire to give back to an industry that has shaped him and to ensure that future actors are better prepared for the challenges of the performance capture world .
"When I had a child, I realized I was doing something greater than myself, and that was actually helping my career."
